Delonte West Net Worth

What is Delonte West’s Net Worth, Salary, and Career Earnings?

One thousand dollars is the net worth of former professional basketball player Delonte West. Regretfully, Delonte is among the worst instances of a professional athlete whose life collapsed following the conclusion of his career. During his career, he made almost $14 million in income alone, but years later, he was observed to be severely dealing with drugs and other issues.

Early Life

On July 26, 1983, Delonte West was born in Washington, DC. He attended St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia after Eleanor Roosevelt High School in the Greenbelt. Delonte and Jameer Nelson created what was considered the nation’s top backcourt while they were at St. Joseph’s.

Saint Joseph’s University advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2004 NCAA Tournament thanks in part to West’s efforts.

NBA Career

In the 2004 NBA Draft, West was selected 24th overall by the Boston Celtics. Due to injury issues, he only participated in 39 games during his debut season. West was named the starting point guard during the 2005–06 season during his first campaign. West was transferred to shooting guard by the 2006–07 campaign. Nevertheless, West’s early struggles led to his return to point guard, so luck wasn’t on his side.

As part of a three-team trade, West was traded to the Seattle Supersonics in 2007 and then to the Cleveland Cavaliers in early 2008.

Just six days after the trade, West scored a season-high 20 points against the Boston Celtics while playing for the Cavaliers.

West agreed to a three-year, $12.7 million deal with the Cavaliers at the end of 2008. West assumed the roles of backup point guard and shooting guard. When West showed himself to be a superb outside shooter and a backcourt defensive player, some people took notice. West’s tenure with the Cavaliers was brief, as he was later traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. West signed a one-year contract with the Boston Celtics, his former team, in late 2010 to serve as a point guard backup for Rajon Rondo. After entering a guilty plea to firearms charges, the contact abruptly stopped. From 2011 to 2012, Delonte was a member of the Dallas Mavericks. After that, he played abroad for a few years.

Financial And Personal Problems

Delonte has struggled with emotional and financial issues throughout his career, even though his income (before taxes and fees) has been $14 million. He reportedly lived in the Mavericks locker room during the NBA lockout and had to sell all of his jewelry and many automobiles. In order to make ends meet during this period, he also applied for a temporary position at Home Depot. West reportedly spent a lot of money on legal defense and divorce-related expenses.

Delonte seems somewhat impoverished and possibly homeless in a snapshot taken in August 2019. He was spotted appearing unkempt and barefoot in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant a few months prior.

Delonte was seen panhandling on a Dallas, Texas, street in September 2020. West was taken off the streets by Mavericks owner Mark Cuban after he won. West was taken to a drug rehab center by Mark. Delonte’s luck appeared to have turned around for a while. He was working at the rehabilitation center and had reconnected with his family.

Regretfully, Delonte was arrested in Florida in October 2021.
